The 2024 Car Boot season is underway and will continue to the last Sunday in September, subject to weather.
We have had a review of the safety around the gate between the two fields and believe that we can reduce the risks associated with sellers leaving early when there are numerous buyers walking in the aisles and entering the field on foot.
With immediate effect if you are a seller wishing to leave the field before 12:30 you are required to seek help from a Lion Club marshall. Lions Club marshals will regularly walk between the aisles during the event, if you need help or wish to leave early, please summon a marshal. If you need to leave, they will, if necessary, escort you safely off-site, do not drive through the event area/off site without an escort unless instructed otherwise by a Lions Club marshal.
We will open the field at 07:30 for sellers to set up. We suggest buyers arrive after 08:30.
The Boot Sales will take place every Sunday morning (subject to the weather conditions) throughout the summer months (mid-late June to end September) in two fields at West Wayland next to the camping and caravanning holiday park. The official open hours are 08:30 to 12:30 although many regular sellers arrive from 07:30. The location is rural with extensive sea views adding to the enjoyment of the occasion.
Sellers are charged a pitch fee of £7 (however large pitches may be charged more at the discretion of the Lions Committee). There is no requirement to book a pitch, just turn up. No traders. There is no entry fee or car parking fee for buyers except on the day of the Charity Family Fun Day when there is a charge of £2 per car which also allows the occupants access to the event and its many attractions. Whilst there is no entry fee for buyers please buy a Duck Race ticket or two from us at the entrance (you might win £1,000 if you do) or just put a donation in the bucket as we give our time freely to make money for the charities and good causes that we support..
We have a refreshment van selling bacon butties etc and hot & cold drinks etc. and an ice cream van providing something cooler. There is a Portaloo in the car boot parking field, please use this rather than the facilities in the nearby camp/caravan park which are off limits for anyone other than residents of the camping caravanning park.
You can call the recorded information line on 07399 719998 for up to date information and whether the sale has been cancelled due to the weather (Please note that this is an information only line and messages will not be listened to). The message will be issued on the Saturday evening and, if necessary, updated at 07:00 on the day of the car boot when we know the actual weather and the state of the field, but generally if it is dry there will be a car boot sale.
